April 19 - Chester 1
An out of region hasler race but they’re nice people, its close to home and it doesn’t clash with any of our races. Its also a K1 assessment race so there should be lots of action from good paddlers.
April 26 - Anker Valley Hasler
This IS one of ours. Its a canal based course but not as bouncy as Gailey. (Midlands Region Race - earns us points for the National Championships)
May
May 3 - Worcester Hasler
(Midlands Region Race - earns us points for the National Championships)
May 9 - National Sprint Regatta
details as April 4
May 31- Nottingham Hasler
(Midlands Region Race - earns us points for the National Championships)
June
June 5 - Runcorn – Lightning special event
June 14 - Burton Hasler
(Midlands Region Race - earns us points for the National Championships)
June 27 - Conway Assent
10 miles of tidal estuary on flood tide - can be rough. Divs 1-7 only plus tourist trial.
Buoyancy aids compulsory.
Please don’t do this at the expense of the best race of the year on the following day…
June 28 - Shropshire Hasler
Our own hasler event. We usually score lots of points here!
July
July 4 - Cheshire Ring Race
Britain’s longest non-stop K1 race: 95 mile circular canal race through the night on urban and rural canals. Classes for singles or doubles, non-stop or relay.
July 4 - National Sprint Regatta
If you don’t fancy a long and slow race, then you can go short and fast instead…
July 12 Runcorn – Lightning special event
July 26 - Reading K4
10Km K4 race. They provide the boats (you’ll need to book early if you don’t want one that’s too wobbly); you just have to go and paddle. On the Thames at Caversham.
August
August 9 - Ironbridge Hasler
(Midlands Region Race - earns us points for the National Championships)
NB - it’s advertised as a 2009 race. It is usually the first race in the new racing year. Assume that it is a 2010 race and that it will not count towards qualifying races for the 2009 hasler finals.
August 29 - National Marathon Champs
Race by division (if your a senior/veteran) or by age. This year held at Longridge Canoe Club on the mighty Thames.
September
September 5 - National Sprint Regatta
September 13 - Chester 2 Hasler
Again, not in our region but a nice race.
September 20 - Soar Valley Hasler
A 2010 race.
(Midlands Region Race - earns us points for the 2010 National Championships)
September 27 - Hasler Finals
Only the top 8 clubs in the region get to go to this. We qualified last year for the first time. Lets see if we can do it again. Remember you need to have three qualifying races to race at the finals. If you’re not sure what counts as a qualifying race, talk to Deb.
This year its in Reading.
October
October 3 - Reading K4 Race
10Km K4 race. See 26/7 for more details.
Again, there is a regional hasler the following day which gets us points for the 2010 hasler finals.
October 4 - Fladbury Hasler
Always a good race - and netted us lots of promotions in 2008.
(Midlands Region Race - earns us points for the National Championships)
October 11 - Lincoln Hasler
The only race we’ve not made it to. They make it to ours so we probably should make the effort. This race is of more value to the club than the Mersey Descent in terms of earning points…
(Midlands Region Race - earns us points for the National Championships)
October 11 - Mersey Descent
9.2 mile race, 13 weirs. One sloping weir may need to be portaged at high flow, 12 small rubble weirs shootable at any flow. No understern rudders for K1/K2. Classes K1, K2, WWR, Canadian, General Purpose Kayak. Helmets and bouyancy aids compulsory.
October 25 - Nottingham K2 race
18 miles + 3 portages downstream from Castle Donnington to Nottingham. For K2 and C2s only. Classes for seniors, juniors, U16s, men, women, mixed.
November
November 8 - Avon Descent
November 14 - Trentham Hasler
Another race that’s close to home but out of region. Trentham are friendly (they lent us lightnings for last years hasler finals) and its their first race so we should go and support them.
November 29 - The Ross Warland memorial Canal Challenge
Excellent race - depsite last year’s perishing conditions. Can be run as a relay or straight through giving options of 5, 10 or 20 miles.
December
December 6 - Stour Descent
15 mile river descent for all boats.
